Eddie Gray has claimed that the Leeds United squad will be aiming for European qualification in the Premier League this season.
The club legend admitted that every single side in the top-ten will have their eyes on those places – somewhere the Whites ended up on Monday.
Gray did backtrack slightly saying that it won’t be a massive target, but the belief to win every game in the squad could help their cause.
Speaking on the Leeds United Show, Gray made the European claim after our third win in four Premier League games recently.
“That’s the most important thing for any side coming up from the Championship, to make sure you survive,” he said.
“We’ve come into the Premier League, and proved we are good enough to play in the Premier League. So, when you look at the league table, if you’re in the top half, then you’re looking at the top six.
“I don’t think they’ll actually think they’re going to challenge for a European spot, but I think there is a belief they can win every game, and if you do that, you’re going to be challenging.”
The only question for this is, why not?
Leeds have nothing to lose this season anymore, with their recent wins taking them as far away from relegation as possible, with the gap now sitting at 17 points.
Although Arsenal haven’t been at their best this season, and are currently below us, Sunday’s game offers the Whites the perfect chance to prove their European credentials.
The Gunners cruised through their Europa League group this season and will continue into the knockout stages this month, so three points at the Emirates will be a real statement.
