Eddie Gray expresses hope for Marcelo Bielsa’s future at Leeds United

Eddie Gray has expressed his hopes for Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa as his team continues to struggle.

The Whites will be doing their best to block the phrase ‘second season syndrome’ out of their head as they flirt with the relegation zone in their second season back in the Premier League.

They sit well within striking distance in 16th with several teams having the opportunity to overtake them if their games in hand go well.

Bielsa has done a terrific job at Leeds with Gray showing his admiration for the Argentine as per Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I hope he stays as that means the club is being successful,” said Gray about Bielsa’s long term future with the Whites.

“But that’s the thing about football, if you are doing well then the manager stays at the football club.

“But if you get relegated or if things haven’t gone well then the manager comes under pressure, every manager in football knows that and that’s just how the game is.”

Loyalty

After everything Bielsa has done for Leeds United it would almost be a crime to sack him during what is supposed to be his last season in charge at Elland Road.

Not only did he play a huge part in regaining the clubs Premier League status after 16 years but once back in the topflight he excelled.

Leeds finished ninth in their first season and have enjoyed great results against the very best in the business whilst sticking to their ruthless tactics.

Which may just be the problem this season – the tactics. Bielsa is said to have been found out by many which is why Leeds are struggling. It can seem easy to pin it to that without considering all areas though.

The main one being the players. Bielsa and Leeds have struggled for the fitness of some of their best players this season which is bound to have its detriment on any team.

When you consider the Whites’ very risky, aggressive man to man approach, it is vital to have the very best players who are drilled to perfection on the pitch.

A slight drop off in quality or understanding of the system could be huge and is why Leeds must be patient with their star man Bielsa.
