Eddie Gray delivers verdict on Leeds hopes of promotion, predicts nail-biting end of season

Eddie Gray has admitted that he is very confident that Leeds United can secure promotion to the Premier League this season under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites legend does believe that it will be a nerve-wracking couple of months at Elland Road though, with the Championship being so unpredictable.

Gray claimed that having six home games in their last 11 outings will play a big factor, with home advantage playing into our hands.

Gray heaped praise on Bielsa and his backroom staff for the job they have done in West Yorkshire since arriving at the beginning of last season.

“Marcelo Bielsa and his team have done extremely well,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“It looks good but I just hope it happens and I think before the end of the season there will be a few fingernails getting bitten.

“We’ve got a lot of games that we will be expected to win and it will be difficult. It’s a funny league the Championship.

“But I am pretty confident this season with the squad that is there and the way they are playing football that they are good enough to go up.”

Everyone will remember what happened last season, with us all believing promotion was guaranteed until a shocking final month which included defeats against Wigan, Ipswich and Brentford.

Leeds do have a so-called easier run-in this season though, with Fulham the only club we have left to play from the top-seven in the league.

Prediction expert Nate Silver has claimed on his website, FiveThirtyEight that the Whites currently have a 92% chance of earning promotion to the Premier League – we’ll take that.
