Eddie Gray delivers verdict on Augustin, makes striker prediction for Leeds clash v Forest
Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has said that Jean-Kevin Augustin “will be used” by Marcelo Bielsa in the massive Championship clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
He also said that Augustin could give the fans and his teammates the lift they need after a disappointing result against Wigan.
Talking to ClubCall, Gray said, “Fans have got to keep the faith, we’re still in a great position in the league. It’s only the start of February.”
“Scoring goals has been a problem recently,” Gray added.
The host of the show asked Gray, “Augustin has been brought in to score goals. Now is the time for him to be used, surely?”
“I think definitely he’ll be used,” Gray said. “Patrick Bamford scored his couple against Millwall and you’re hoping he’s going to go on a run and score seven or eight. It never happened for him at the weekend.
“But that’s why it’s always good to have someone there… He’s scored goals in decent leagues, so hopefully he can come in and be a great asset for the football club.
“It will give everyone a lift, the fans, his teammates and that’s what you’re looking for.”
Will he play v Nottingham Forest
It’s the million-dollar question for Leeds fans at the moment.
Everyone wants to see him and he played 45 minutes for the Under-23s yesterday, which suggests he certainly has the fitness to play at least a cameo role at the City Ground.
Ultimately it will come down to Marcelo Bielsa who has already said it would take Augustin time to get up to speed for Leeds.
Ian Wright criticised this on Radio Five Live on Monday saying Augustin would get up to speed on the pitch and that Leeds need him now.
A late cameo and the winning goal would be the dream for Augustin but we’re not entirely convinced he’s going to get the chance.
