Early Leeds United teams news v Southampton: Big Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha updates – report

Beren Cross has shared the early Leeds United team news for the next Premier League clash with Southampton with injuries galore recently.

The reliable journalist has insisted that Raphinha is in “pole position” to return to the starting XI after the international break.

Kalvin Phillips at the “very least” will hope to get minutes from the bench, but could even start the game after another two weeks of training.

Writing in his latest piece for Leeds Live, Cross shared what he expects from certain injured players at Elland Road.

“At the very least, Phillips is on an upward curve with his fitness and will hope to get minutes from the bench if not from the start against the Saints,” he wrote.

“Raphinha’s COVID diagnosis spared him the arduous flights to and from South America which put him in pole position to return to the side next weekend too.”

Pole Position.

Raphinha returning to the starting XI would be excellent news.

The Brazilian has been in the centre of all news this week without even playing due to his COVID finding, with transfer news going into overdrive.

No doubt, Raphinha will just want to get back to playing again and he could have Phillips alongside him – just how good would that be?

The Yorkshire Pirlo was on the bench at Wolves but was never going to play, so with another two weeks of training and rehab behind him, that start could definitely be possible.

Having Raphinha, Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Illan Meslier fit and available would be a huge boost – Southampton will be wary of that.

After two wins on the bounce before the break, too, these big boosts will only increase the chances of making it three.
