Early Leeds United team news v Real Sociedad: Jesse Marsch could be without ten players
Leeds United are facing a number of injury issues ahead of their friendly clash against Real Sociedad on Friday (16 December) at Elland Road.
It will be the first of two home friendlies ahead of the return of competitive club football after Christmas.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post (15 December), Leeds could be missing as many as ten players. Four players are more or less certain to miss out and at least six players are doubtful for this game.
The likes of Patrick Bamford, Luis Sinisterra, Stuart Dallas and Diego Llorente are certain to miss out. Crysciencio Summerville and Sonny Perkins both limped off against Elche and they are also likely to miss out.
Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson are doubts with illness. Robin Koch has picked up an Achilles problem while Junior Firpo is also a major doubt as he works back towards full fitness from a groin issue.
However, Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams and Rasmus Kristensen, the three players who participated in the World Cup for their respective countries, are in contention to return.
These friendly games are vital for Leeds as the club need to hit the ground running to avoid being caught up in a relegation race.
The players have got adequate rest during the World Cup break, but Marsch still won’t be happy with the number of players struggling with injuries at the moment.
It will a tough contest as Real Sociedad are enjoying a fine season so far. They are third in La Liga and have also secured a spot in the Europa League.
Leeds have lost five of their last seven games in the Premier League and at one point it felt like Marsch could lose his job.
However, prior to the World Cup break, they showed tremendous fighting spirit to win back-to-back games against Liverpool and Bournemouth and fought bravely in the 4-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Once again, Leeds have failed to maintain a strong defensive shape as they have been conceding loads of goals. This is one area they need to improve, otherwise, they could really struggle to climb up the table.
In other Leeds United news, talks are underway over this player quitting Elland Road for a high-paid contract.
