Adrian Durham has defended Leeds United from critics who claim the Whites are not good enough defensively.
The talkSPORT host highlighted the injury issues that have impacted the squad this season, with several first-team centre-backs being sidelined this year.
On Tuesday’s Drive with Adrian Durham & Charlie Austin on talkSPORT, he said, “They’ve been without [Gaetano] Berardi who’s been injured since last season as well.
“In the midst of everybody going on about how many goals Bielsa’s teams concede they completely miss the point that all their centre-halves are out.”
Leeds have suffered from injuries to Diego Llorente and Robin Koch but we may have all five centre-backs fit for the end of season run-in.
Currently, Llorente, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk are available for selection.
However, Gaetano Berardi got his first minutes for months in an under 23s game on Monday, and his knee rehabilitation seems to be going well.
We hope he returns soon and gets a taste of Premier League football, and Koch could join him.
There is still some stages of recovery for the German to undergo and like Berardi he will be eased back in slowly.
We have not been disastrous at the back but Llorente and Koch would command the backline and spread confidence throughout the team.
And the prospect of two international players being paired in central defence fills us with excitement.
It would be great if they get a chance to build a partnership in a few games at the end of the campaign, as they could be our first-choice for next season.
Cooper may have something to say about that but their availability at least puts pressure on him and the others to perform.
We have lacked that competition at the back this season.
