Door open for Leeds United to secure deal for Gonzalo Plata
Leeds United may have a window of opportunity to sign Sporting CP winger Gonzalo Plata this summer if they chose to pursue the deal.
Plata spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Real Valladolid, who won promotion to La Liga this season.
They have an option to sign the dazzling forward permanently for £8.5million, but they are struggling to sign him.
According to a report from O Jogo (4 June, page 7), the Spanish club “have admitted difficulty in reaching an agreement” for the 21-year-old winger.
The report adds that Plata is waiting for a verdict after the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s office asked for a sentence of six months in prison.
The player will be under trial for the car accident he caused in December where it was accused that the Ecuadorian forward was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Last month, BolaVIP reported that Leeds are also interested in securing the services of the exciting forward.
He enjoyed a brilliant campaign last season (2021-22), where he scored six goals and supplied five assists in 30 league appearances for Valladiod.
The youngster has got raw pace and guile, and he has plenty of room to improve.
Raphinha has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, while Jack Harrison’s future has been speculated as well. Leeds need another winger in their ranks if either of them departs.
With Valladoid finding it hard to reach an agreement, the door is open for Leeds to secure a deal. However, everything depends on Plata’s judicial verdict.
In other Leeds United news, Manchester United are re-opening the Raphinha exit door by trying to force a £72million European transfer.
