Don Hutchison blown away by Kalvin Phillips & Marcelo Bielsa moment at Fulham

Leeds United scraped past Fulham in the Carabao Cup last night with a penalty shootout win at Craven Cottage.

Don Hutichison was left stunned by Kalvin Phillips in normal time, who playing deeper could pick out passes with ease in a quarterback style.

One moment left him not believing his eyes though, as Marcelo Bielsa fumed as the Yorkshire Pirlo hit a magic long-range pass.

Speaking live on the BBC, Hutchison couldn’t believe his eyes as El Loco reacted to the piece of Phillips magic.

“Marcelo Bielsa would confuse me playing for him,” he said.

“Kalvin Phillips has the ball and his range of passing is incredible, he’s just sprayed one 50/60 yards, right on the money.

“I watched Bielsa, and he had a go at him.”

No pleasing.

Bielsa is well known to keep a straight face no matter what happens on the pitch, but even he will have been delighted last night.

Phillips was head and shoulders above the rest of the pitch at Craven Cottage, and playing in the heart of defence saw him dominate the ball even more than usual.

With the defensive crisis as it is right now, partnering Charlie Cresswell on only his second start for the club made it even more difficult for Phillips.

Having said that, he set the perfect example and even if Bielsa wasn’t happy with some of the long-range passing, he will have been giving out a huge hug in the dressing room.

Hutchison may have been left confused by this, but it is this type of tough love that has made Phillips the player he is today, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
