Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman predicts where Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town will now finish

Don Goodman would “be very surprised” if Leeds United and Leicester City do not earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

Leeds are eight points adrift of top-two sides Leicester and Ipswich Town with a little over a third of the 2023-24 Championship campaign played.

The Whites have been gaining ground on Ipswich, however, and Goodman can see them overtaking the Tractor Boys in the coming months.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News on Tuesday [14 November, 10:48], Goodman said: “I look at the top four and I don’t see that changing.

“I’m not saying in what order, but I’d be very surprised if Leeds United and Leicester City aren’t the top two.

“That’s not to say Ipswich or Southampton don’t have the capability of chasing them down – they do.”

The chase is on

An eight-point margin may sound like a lot – and it is on the face of it – but there are still 90 points to play for this season.

It must be remembered, too, that Leeds have won each of their past three games, whereas Ipswich have won just once in that period.

Momentum is with the Whites, and that is something they simply have to maintain ahead of facing Town on December 23.

As long as Ipswich remain in touching distance by the time that fixture comes around, then automatic promotion is a realistic possibility.

Throw into the mix that Leicester have taken zero points from the past six on offer, and there is certainly plenty to be positive about.

This period between the latter part of November and the start of the new year can go a long way to determining who goes up.

Let’s just hope Daniel Farke’s men are ready to hit the ground running once club action resumes next week.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are reportedly in the running to sign a player valued at around £3.4million.
