Don Goodman shares what he is confident of happening at Leeds in Jan transfer window

Don Goodman is confident that Leeds United will be in the hunt to sign themselves a new centre-forward before the January transfer window closes.

Eddie Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal at the start of the month, leaving out-of-form Patrick Bamford as Marcelo Bielsa’s only out-and-out striker in the senior squad.

Bamford had a shocker against QPR on Saturday as Leeds lost 1-0 at Loftus Road.

The ex-Chelsea striker squandered a golden opportunity in the first half before missing a penalty to level the scores after the break.

If it was not clear that Leeds needed a new striker before their trip to West London, it is now.

Former West Brom and Wolves player Goodman is mindful that Nketiah’s return to Arsenal has caused an issue for Bielsa but he does see the Yorkshire club completing a deal for a replacement before the transfer window closes.

“The fact that Nketiah went back because he’s looking for first-team football is understandable from Arsenal’s and his perspective but it has left Leeds United very, very short with options,” said Goodman on Sky Sports’ EFL Podcast.

“I’m confident that is an area they will be looking to address in this January transfer window.”

Leeds have been linked with plenty of strikers this month with Southampton’s Che Adams and Watford’s Andre Gray the two who seem to be the priority targets.

However Leeds have a big issue in trying to sign a new striker because why would a Premier League club loan them a striker who might not play?

Nketiah made just two Championship starts in his loan spell at Elland Road and they only came around the festive period when Bamford was injured.

What would Southampton and Watford get out of loaning Adams and Gray to Leeds?

Money talks. And that could be what makes or breaks Leeds’ January window.

In other Leeds United news, this Spanish attacker has emerged on Leeds’ radar this month and he could be a smart addition to the squad.
