Don Goodman: Burnley opener v Southampton drags Leeds United back into relegation picture

Don Goodman has warned that Burnley opening the scoring against Southampton has dragged Leeds United into trouble.

The Whites were eight points clear of the drop before kick-off at Turf Moor this evening, but Connor Roberts opened the scoring.

That cut the gap to five points on the live Premier League table, something that Goodman believes will trouble Leeds and their relegation fight.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game [21 April, 20:10] Goodman dropped the major verdict.

“You could argue that it brings Leeds United into the picture,” he said.

Shocking.

Leeds fans will have been watching hoping for Southampton to turn up, but they were nothing short of dreadful in the first half.

It also makes us question how on earth we didn’t take all three points against the Saints some weeks ago.

Having said that, Everton are in much bigger danger than the Whites as things stand in the Premier League.

They are now only one point ahead of Burnley compared to our five, and they have Liverpool and Chelsea in their next two.

Leeds now that this is in their hands now, with these two clubs having zero games in hand when we run out at Crystal Palace on Monday.

One or two more wins and Jesse Marsch will have guided the Whites to safety, but let’s hope for Southampton to turn it around as we speak to make it more comfortable.
