Dimitar Berbatov is backing Leeds United to pick up three points against Crystal Palace on Monday night as the Whites look to bounce back from the loss to Everton.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been inconsistent since the turn of the year but are well clear of the relegation places as they sit above Monday’s opponents in the table.
The former Manchester United man spoke to Metro as he revealed his adoration for El Loco and backed the Whites to register a 3-1 win at Elland Road.
He said, “I love the way Marcelo Bielsa has got his Leeds team playing and, while it doesn’t always get results, I think they’ll have too much threat for an inconsistent Palace defence.”
A heavy win would be suitable revenge following the 4-1 loss at Selhurst Park earlier this season and Roy Hodgson’s side will be considerably weaker this time.
Wilfred Zaha will miss the game through injury and Palace will have limited options with an injury crisis forcing the Eagles to only name seven players on their bench in the midweek game against Newcastle.
The Eagles did win that game against Newcastle but as long as we manage to mark well at set-pieces we should be ok.
Berbatov’s assessment is essentially correct.
Bielsa’s methods are effective but sometimes it doesn’t work, see our game against Man United and the reverse of Monday’s fixture.
A result on Monday will depend on which Leeds turns up at Elland Road, if it is the one that beat Leicester then we’ll be fine.
However, if it is the Leeds that started 2021 by losing to Crawley then it may not be straightforward.
We hope that Berbatov’s predictions comes to fruition but we would love to see Illan Meslier pick up another clean sheet.
