'Disrespectful' - Radrizzani & Jeff Stelling blast pundit after Leeds 5-0 win v West Brom

Andrea Radrizzani has blasted Amazon Prime pundit Karen Carney for her comment about Leeds United on Tuesday night.

The former England Women player claimed Leeds “actually got promoted because of COVID” last season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s teams have infamously struggled in the second halves of seasons and Carney believes that the enforced break in last season helped Leeds recover and see out their promotion bid from the Championship.

Leeds’ official Twitter account mocked Carney for her comment on Amazon Prime on Tuesday, which led to one Twitter user hitting out at the club for a “disgusting” targetted attack on an individual.

Radrizzani responded to that tweet to further slam Carney for her ill-thought comment.

“I take the responsibility of the Club tweet,” said Radrizzani via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

“I consider that comment completely unnecessary and disrespectful to our Club and particularly to the fantastic hard work of our players and coaches whom were understanding on the pitch for the last two championship seasons by all stats.”

Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling was also left baffled by Carney’s comment after Leeds retweeted it.

He wrote on his Twitter account: “Leeds so lucky that Covid intervened. They had only won five in a row before the season was suspended. Clearly running out of steam!”

Promoted because of anything but COVID

It is unfair of Carney to say that but we think she might have misworded what she was actually trying to say.

Leeds had a sketchy winter period last season as they won just two of 11 games at one point between December and February.

Bielsa’s side had started to run out of steam the season before which is one of the reasons why they finished third in that campaign and lost out in the play-offs.

However, Leeds’ form revived before the COVID-enforced break with five consecutive wins.

While the break would have helped the players rest a bit more, the hard work of Bielsa, his coaching team, the club’s medical staff and the players themselves cannot be overstated because they ensured the Whites maintained their form after the break.

Leeds players didn’t just sit around and play FIFA for two or three months, so much hard work went in over that break and Carney has downplayed that with what she said.

In other Leeds United news, fans are worried for Radrizzani’s future after a new report emerged about him.
