Directors box could not believe Leeds United star Patrick Bamford at Elland Road
Phil Hay has claimed those in the directors’ box at Leeds United were left in shock as Patrick Bamford revealed his fashion statement of bleach-blonde hair in the 3-2 win against Middlesbrough.
The Athletic journalist reported [2 January] that gasps were heard around the stadium last month in reaction as Bamford was the last person they’d have expected to make that change.
It was a statement decision from Bamford when many were wondering and waiting for him to make one on the field rather than off it, but that moment finally came against Birmingham on 1 January.

Time to make your presence known
So far this season, up until the Birmingham victory, Bamford had made 16 Championship appearances without a single goal. Leaving Elland Road directors shocked by his hairstyle was about the only impactful thing he’d done for Leeds this campaign.
But while the bleach-blonde hair has been a headline-grabber since Bamford made that decision, he will now be hoping for his performances to steal those headlines, after the Englishman finally bagged his first goal of the season in the 3-0 victory.
It was a step up in the level of his performance, not only just because of the goal, but he looked like a more reliable figure leading the line at Elland Road. Three of his five shots hitting the target, one blocked and one hitting the woodwork is a sign of new-found confidence.

A potential revival for Bamford won’t have been on many people’s list of ambitions for the new year, but nobody will be complaining if his newfound confidence can help fire Leeds to the Premier League.
