Diogo Monteiro undergoes medical with Leeds United on Monday – Phil Hay
Servette defender Diogo Monteiro is in England to undergo a medical ahead of his permanent transfer to Leeds today, according to Phil Hay.
The Whites have been tracking 18-year-old Monteiro from Swiss club Servette for part of their “anticipating talent” programme to join up with the Under-21’s immediately.
The club had to wait until he turned 18 over the weekend to make negotiations formal, but Monteiro is now in England for a medical before putting pen to paper at Elland Road according to The Athletic journalist Hay.
“Servette centre-back Diogo Monteiro in England to undergo a medical with Leeds today,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (30 January).
Monteiro is expected to join up with the academy immediately, although he is highly-rated and is expected to progress to the first-team.
Lovely
It’s great work from Leeds in this transfer window and you’d be hard pressed to find any fan who thinks otherwise.
The club have already signed Max Wober and Georginio Rutter, while Weston McKennie is also in Leeds for a medical today ahead of a transfer from Juventus this month.

Monteiro isn’t a first-team signing, but with Diego Llorente now set to join Roma in a rather surprising exit there is a clear path to progress into the first-team for the young Portuguese defender.
Rutter is a record deal and McKennie has the potential to become a record transfer too should the loan become a permanent deal, while Wober represented great value.
The club have moved quickly to seal this deal for Monteiro too and it now looks like a near perfect window for most Leeds fans, with everything addressed and a couple of bonus deals too, plus some dead wood being shifted also.
