Dimitar Berbatov is backing West Ham to register a heavy win over Leeds United on Monday night with a result that will continue our recent poor form in the capital.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men travel to the London Stadium looking to avenge the 2-1 loss at Elland Road earlier this season.
Former Tottenham striker Berbatov doesn’t believe we will end our run of bad form in London and is backing the Hammers to smash us 4-1.
“West Ham are the surprise of the season for me and not many people expected them to be in the top four now, including me,” Berbatov told Metro.
“I would like to see them continue their good form. Leeds, like I’ve said before, don’t care who they are playing they will explore the space on the pitch and also leave spaces, which is their weakness at times.
“West Ham can get a good win in this one. 4-1 West Ham.”
This is a bold prediction but if we defend like we have done recently and West Ham are in the mood, this prediction may not be far from the mark.
We are in desperate need of ending our capital hoodoo if only to shut up Sky Sports every time we play a side from London.
West Ham have been so impressive this season and they aren’t likely to give much away at the back which means our attackers will have to be at their best to breach the Irons’ backline.
They also have quality attackers in Michail Antonio and a rejuvenated Jesse Lingard who have the potential to cause Illan Meslier some issues.
We have it in us to beat them but it will take an excellent performance and as much as we want to be outraged with Berbabtov’s prediction… we know there is every chance we could be on the end of a thumping on Monday.
In other Leeds United news, Martin Tyler gave us a bizarre shoutout during the Manchester derby.
