Diego Simeone makes Bielsa claim when listing managers that have influenced his career

Diego Simeone has named a number of managers in world football that have influenced his career in management, including Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United.

The Atletico Madrid boss was speaking after he masterminded the Spanish side’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Simeone named the likes of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Alfio Basile – an Argentinian icon who has managed the likes of Boca Juniors numerous times.

The Atletico boss had specific praise for Bielsa though, claiming that the Leeds boss has had the biggest effect on his career.

“I have the influence of several coaches: Bielsa, Eriksson, Basile, they have all left a mark,” he said.

“Bielsa taught me the most.”

Bielsa has many so-called disciples of his free-flowing football, with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino massive fans of the South American.

There are no words that can describe the transformation Leeds have made under Bielsa, with everyone at the club simply in love with what he has achieved.

Bielsa has turned the fortunes of the club around with limited transfers and a number of faces that failed to impress before he arrived.

He has been idolised as a god in West Yorkshire, and that is before Leeds have even earned promotion to the Premier League. You can only imagine what is going to happen if he finally ends the near two-decade wait for top-flight football at the club.
