Diego Llorente urges Leeds United to be 'focussed' amid Burnley return

Diego Llorente has urged Leeds United to be ‘focused’ as he prepares to return to action against Burnley on Sunday (January 2).

The Leeds stalwart has been isolating over the Christmas period thanks to a positive coronavirus test.

The Spaniard missed Arsenal’s visit to Elland road on Saturday (December 18) where the Gunners came out 4-1 to the good.

The defender admitted he had no symptoms and is in good shape thanks to receiving his booster jab. Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Llorente said:

“I feel very good right now because I didn’t have symptoms and I was isolating in my room.

“I had the booster vaccine which is what is most important. I had Covid but no symptoms so right now I feel very good and I feel with a lot of energy to help the team.

“We are now in a hard situation because we have problems with Covid and with injured players.

“But I think now we are in conditions to play Sunday’s game so the most important thing for the team is to be focused on Sunday’s game against Burnley.”

 Fitness first

An outbreak within the Whites squad has led to several postponements over the Christmas period.

Thankfully for Leeds, games against their Boxing Day (December 26) and midweek game (December 28) were both cancelled with them shy of the required 14 first team players required to play.

The senior defender nearing a return and so desperate to make an impact will give Leeds a huge boost in their first game of the new year as they face Burnley on Sunday (January 2).

With several key first-team players returning it is imperative the Whites do everything they can to maintain the fitness of their squad.

If all of the players haven’t already, they need to be double vaccinated and as well as receive all of the boosters available.

This would stop the spread of the virus within the squad but also decrease the length of time on the sidelines and reduce the severity of the virus.

That can only be a good thing as the Whites look to keep all of their players fit to give them the best possible opportunity of staying in the Premier League.
