Diego Llorente Leeds United talks scheduled as Roma push for discount transfer

Roma are set to enter into negotiations with Leeds United over Diego Llorente in the coming weeks, according to Italian journalist, Filippo Biafora.

According to Romagiallorossa on 7 June, Roma are looking for a £6million discount on the £18million fee agreed between the two sides when he moved to the Italian capital (Daily Mail, 31 January).

Tempoweb journalist Biafora has revealed (via Twitter, 8 June) that negotiations will take place.

“Roma communicated to the English club that they will not exercise the £18million clause,” he wrote.

“They will try to enter into a new negotiation in the coming weeks.”

Right price

It’s essential that Leeds land the right price when it comes to Llorente. Roma are clearly interested, but they can’t sell the Serie A club out of sympathy. There’s reported interest from Spain and if another team is willing to meet Leeds’ demands, they must sell.

The decision to offer Llorente a new deal at Elland Road is looking like a smart one. It’s given the Whites security over his contract and they’re in a strong position when it comes to his exit. His future will lie elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean Leeds can’t secure a decent fee for the defender.

With the 49ers’ takeover now on the brink of being completed, it’s important for the board to adequately back whoever is given the vacant managerial position. Investment will be needed, but looking to sell assets will also be on the agenda.

Moving on Llorente for a significant transfer fee will be best for all parties.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a Whites senior player is now set to leave the club at a discounted fee post relegation and will not be signing a new contract.
