Diego Llorente focus on helping Leeds amid Spain call-up
Diego Llorente is focused on giving his all for Leeds United after receiving a call-up to the Spain national team.
The defender has enjoyed his first run in the Whites team since signing last summer and is keen to repay the loyalty shown in him.
His form earned him international recognition but he was keen to ensure supporters that he is only concerned about performing for Leeds.
In an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, he said, “It is something I have accepted with great pride, it’s a real honour and something that I’m very happy about to be called up.
“It’s important recognition of your hard work but at the same time, my aim is to carry on bringing stuff to Leeds, helping Leeds out and if that leads to international recognition then great.
“The main objective is to work hard and provide my ability to Leeds.”
Great attitude
Llorente has spent much of the season injured so it is great that he is eager to repay the faith shown in him.
Many at the club have offered him support over the last few months and now he wants to prove that he can become a key player for us.
The early signs are positive, too, and against Chelsea he did not put a foot wrong, despite the strength of the opposition.
He made two tackles and one interception [WhoScored] on Saturday but looked composed on and off the ball and guided Pascal Struijk throughout.
His Premier League understanding is building with each game and he is well-deserving of his Spain call up.
If he can stay fit we believe he will become integral at the heart of defence and with any luck can start next season alongside Robin Koch.
As long as he continues his willingness to work hard and learn from Marcelo Bielsa he should have a very successful spell at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, Alan Shearer has named a Leeds outfield player in his Premier League Team of the Week.
