Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has admitted that Leeds United forward Ryan Edmondson is highly thought of at Elland Road.

The under-23s forward has struggled to make any sort of impact since Marcelo Bielsa arrived at the club, and finally sealed a loan switch to Scotland on Friday.

Edmondson made his debut for the Dons on Saturday, coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat against Rangers at Pittodrie.

McInnes is clearly a big fan of the physical striker, claiming that he wanted to bring him in sooner than he managed to this season.

“I thought when Edmondson came on that he gave us a bit more psychically and it annoyed their centre backs a bit more with his running power and his physical size,” he told Not the Old Firm.

“Obviously, he helped us get up the pitch a bit more. Ideally, we would have got Ryan up with us earlier in the week.

“Ryan is someone when there was a possibility of Sam going to France, he was one of the players that we had looked at as a potential replacement. He scores goals, he is very highly thought of at Leeds.

“We are delighted to get him, he is young, he is raw at times, but he does have potential and he gives us something a wee bit different.”

McInnes’ words are much different from what has been suggested in West Yorkshire surrounding Edmondson’s chances.

Despite Edmondson reportedly not being fancied by Bielsa, the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has claimed that the forward is set to sign a new contract at Elland Road.

That will be a great boost for the 19-year-old, who now has the chance to prove himself at senior level and show Bielsa that he has what it takes to succeed at Leeds past this season.
