Delano Burgzorg dubbed ‘sensational’ after what Middlesbrough ace did v Leeds United
Andy Hinchcliffe was wowed by Delano Burgzorg for his display against Leeds United for Middlesbrough on Wednesday night [14 August].
The 25-year-old was rewarded for this display scoring the second goal of the game as Middlesbrough advanced to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 victory at Elland Road.
Hinchcliffe described the “sensational” passage of play [Sky Sports Main Event, 09:23pm, 14 August] as Burgzorg missed a big chance to double his side’s advantage before his second-half goal.
He said: “Leeds are fortunate to still be in the tie because Middlesbrough are rampant here. Look at the pressure on the ball we’ve not had that from Leeds, we’ve had it from Middlesbrough.
“[Anfernee] Dijksteel look at the sprint off the ball to give [Isaiah] Jones the option of the forward pass. The pullback is sensational and Burgzorg he’s not picked out a corner, he’s really just smashed that at the goal he’s hit the goalkeeper. It should be 2-0 Middlesborough.”
Leeds United under pressure at the start of the season
Daniel Farke is under early pressure as Leeds manager as his side produced another underwhelming display at the start of the 2024/25 season.
The Whites got off to an awful start in the Championship drawing 3-3 with newly-promoted Portsmouth and have now suffered an early exit from the Carabao Cup to add to their troubles.
It is still early into the season and Farke is up against it entering the final weeks of the summer transfer window in need of replacements for Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville.

The early season run-in provides no favours for Leeds as they will travel to promotion rivals West Brom on Saturday [17 August] desperately needing a win at the Hawthorns to kick-start their campaign.
Leeds have conceded six goals in their opening two games, Farke needs to identify the problem fast to ease the anxiety among the supporters and unlock the potential of his talented side.
A good run in a Carabao Cup would have been a nice bonus for a side like Leeds and the only consolation is that the side can now move focus on the Championship and their bid for Premier League promotion.
