Deeney makes ‘Huge’ Daniel Farke admission after Leeds United developments
Troy Deeney says Daniel Farke has to get Leeds United promoted from the Championship this season.
Farke’s side currently sit in the top two of the Championship after a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Tuesday [10 December] at Elland Road.
However, they are in the thick of a battle with Sheffield United, who have been pushing them every week, with Sunderland and Burnley close behind.
A third-place finish last season was not enough for Farke’s side who went on to lose in the play-offs but the expectation is for the Whites to rectify that this time around.
Speaking on talkSPORT [11 December, 16:57], Deeney responded when asked if Leeds were right to stick with Farke, saying: “Yeah. Huge year for him though because if you have to get them up.
“They always start the seasons well so it’s more the nitty gritty of between February and the end of the year, whether they’ll just get it over the line.
“They should’ve done it last year.”
Promotion with Leeds United the only success for Daniel Farke
Although the Whites are having a great season so far and playing some enjoyable football, there will no doubt be worries inside Elland Road as they have seen this story happen before.
As Deeney points out, they usually find themselves struggling more when they reach the end of the campaign so while the manager has indicated he wants a quiet January transfer window, he has to be willing to make the necessary additions that will make the difference in the second half of the season.

A lot of pressure sits on the 48-year-old given they have been aided with parachute payments after their relegation from the Premier League and therefore, have zero excuses.
So far, the manager is showing he can be the man to take Leeds back to where they feel they belong but if he fails to get the job done this season, there is no doubt that he will be viewed as having underachieved in his role.
In other Leeds United news, one Whites player is being eyed by another Championship club ahead of the January transfer window.
