Dean Windass: Dan James will play every week for Leeds United
Dean Windass believes new Leeds United signing Daniel James will be a weekly feature in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
After a relatively quiet transfer window, Leeds capped it off by signing the Wales international on deadline day.
The 23-year-old nearly moved to Elland Road from Swansea in January 2019, but after a deadline day debacle, he went back to the Liberty Stadium and ended up joining Manchester United that summer.
Now, with him finally on the books at Leeds, Windass backs him to thrive under Bielsa.
He told Football FanCast: “I have massive respect for him because it must be very hard to leave Manchester United like that but, obviously, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must have had a chat with him.
“I’m assuming he will play every week and add a bit more pace on Leeds’ right-hand side. He’s a great signing.”
Leeds were unlikely to sign any attackers before deadline day so with James being available and offered to them, it was hard to turn him down.
He certainly wasn’t a player pursued by Bielsa and the club all summer, but was one who the Argentine has kept an eye on ever since his failed move two and a half years ago.
Now that Bielsa has finally got his man, it will be interesting to see how the Wales international fares under him.
Having seen him at Man United, he is a tireless runner who puts in the hard yards off the ball.
Technically he may not be the most sound, but that can always be learned on the training pitch.
What matters most is that he’s a professional who’s willing to buy into the manager’s philosophy and everything points to the suggestion that he’s going to be a good fit under Bielsa.
