Dean Windass casts doubts on future of Kalvin Phillips

Another good season in the Premier League could see Kalvin Phillips leave Leeds United, claims Dean Windass.

The Whites midfielder has enjoyed a remarkable run of performances in the last three seasons which catapulted him into England contention and becoming one of Gareth Southgate’s trusted eleven to start a major final.

His impressive rise from the Championship is what has put everyone on high alert, and Windass believes that 12 good months could see him leaving Elland Road for good.

Speaking to Football FanCast, the former Hull striker said, “Kalvin Phillips was one of the plusses at Euro 2020.

“Being a local boy for Leeds, if he has a wonderful season, he won’t be at Leeds United, the big hitters will come calling.”

Not happening

Pundits love talking about players’ futures despite having no idea of their current situation.

Phillips is adored by the Elland Road faithful, is a Yorkshire lad, and has never spoken or even cast doubts about leaving Leeds United.

He’s working under the one of the best and arguably the most influential football managers of all time who’s taken his game from strength to strength.

Before Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival, Phillips was a box-to-box midfielder but has since been converted into a deep-lying playmaker and is already one of the Premier League’s best in that role.

Windass is right about big clubs probably being interested, but we’re sure that if the team continues to progress in the same way and Bielsa stays on for the foreseeable future, the 25-year-old is unlikely to contemplate a move away from Yorkshire.

We can’t wait to see Phillips in action next season, hopefully with a new signing playing ahead of him in the middle of the park.

When the Yorkshire Pirlo ticks, so does the rest of the side and Bielsa knows that more than anyone else.
