Dean Jones shares new Leeds United Neco Williams transfer update as Nottingham Forest FFP news emerges
Dean Jones has suggested that Nottingham Forest’s alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules could help Leeds United sign Neco Williams during the January transfer window.
Both Forest and Everton have been referred to an independent commission after the Premier League judged them to have broken their financial fair play rules, which could result in a potential points deduction if they are found guilty.
However, this blow could help the Whites secure the services of Forest and Wales fullback Williams before the end of the month, although journalist Jones believes that a deal will be “difficult” to complete at this stage.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (17 January) he said: “I do think that this one is going to be a really difficult one to do. Forest have new complications of their own to deal with at the moment, so that might help Leeds – in some way – to land him. But the plan for Forest was not to get rid of Williams this month.
“It’s interesting that Leeds are exploring it, but I think it is also worth considering that Leeds have got feelers out on four or five players like this at the moment.
“It was probably more in hope than expectation that they could actually get a deal done for Williams.”
Could be done
It seems unlikely at the moment that Leeds United will be able to get a deal over the line to bring Williams to Elland Road before the end of the transfer window, but their chances have likely increased as a result of this latest news.
Forest may be keen to not only raise some much-needed funds but also reduce their wage bill before the end of the January window and the sale of the Welsh international would help them solve both of those issues simultaneously.

While it may remain a difficult deal to finalise, Leeds are certainly not yet out of the running and Forest may be more willing to sell after the recent FFP announcement than they were only a matter of days ago.
Whether or not the Whites will even act on their interest remains to be seen, but this could well be one to keep a close eye on in the closing stages of the transfer window.
