Dean Jones: Big possibility that Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips now stay at Leeds United beyond this season

Dean Jones has insisted that there is now a possibility that both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha will stay at Leeds United beyond this season.

The journalist has shared that all the talk has just been about both leaving, but with especially Phillips, that is not a conclusion, yet.

This is a major U-turn from SPORT reporting that Raphinha has urged his agent, Deco, to do all he can to force a move to Barcelona.

Speaking to GIVE ME Sport on Thursday [24 March], Jones shared the hopes at Elland Road regarding the two main men.

“Around Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, obviously all the talk has been about where are they going to end up?” he said.

“But the latest update is that, at this point, there is a possibility that they will stay, particularly Kalvin Phillips.”

Staying?

Well, this would be an extraordinary turn of events.

It is well documented that Barcelona are pushing for the signing of Raphinha, but the truth is, can they really afford him?

The only way they could realistically make that deal work was if the Whites were relegated or accepted a lowball offer – something we don’t see happening.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier that the Spaniards are well in advanced talks with the winger, but that negotiations haven’t even begun with Leeds yet, so good luck.

As for Kalvin Phillips, he is Leeds born and bred, and if he is given the money he rightly deserves, he will surely sign a new contract at Elland Road.

Keeping both, though, would be huge for the club and for Jesse Marsch, who will no doubt do all he can to try and achieve just that.

In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani has broken his silence on Twitter sharing when he will leave the club
