Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, he said: “He reminds me of Martinelli at Arsenal.

“He’s one of them players who’s got tonnes of energy and with all that energy, he annoys defenders because he’s at them all the time. And he can finish as well. Maybe now that they know Bamford is out, they’re thinking right, let’s give him a chance.”

Back him.

Gelhardt is a serious player with bags of potential. The lad looks to have all of the attributes a footballer needs to go right to the top and he is still a teenager.

Despite being thrown into the deep end every time he has played this season, the striker still boasts a very impressive goal involvement every 91 minutes for the Whites, something Marsch needs to take notice of.

That stat is rather jaded with the attacker mainly having cameos in the team but it is very impressive nonetheless.

Dan James has done well at times up top for the Whites, but nobody has shown as much promise as the youngster in Bamford’s absence.

He is a fearless youngster with bags of confidence having failed to disappoint every time he is backed. Let him put a run of games together and see what he delivers.
