David Seaman delivers Leeds United ‘lottery’ verdict amid fresh Championship prediction
David Seaman has delivered his verdict on the Championship promotion race, suggesting that Leeds United could win the title over Leicester City.
With just three points separating the Whites from the Foxes at the top of the table, the Championship title has become a reality at Elland Road, with Ipswich Town following closely behind.
Southampton are still in contention, albeit their postponed match against Preston North End has left them five points behind the Tractor Boys.
Speaking via the Seaman Says podcast on Wednesday (13 March), Seaman said: “I think that Leeds are now looking at trying to win the league. That’s how close it’s got now.
“I think the three that went down [will get promoted]. I’m not going to say that you [Southampton] are going to pip Leeds, am I? You might pip Leicester because we’re going to win the league.
“It would be nice to see that. If they go into the playoffs, that’s lottery time. I think it’ll be Leeds, and Leicester to go up. It doesn’t matter [which order], just to get up is the one.”
Can Leeds United beat Leicester City to the Championship title?
Fans at Elland Road will trust their team to complete what has, so far, been a spectacular season for Leeds, with the potential to claim automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The club experienced a devastating relegation from the top tier last season, and having lost a lot of high-quality players to loan deals during the summer, Daniel Farke has done an incredible job.
With his previous work with Norwich City in the Championship, it comes as no surprise that the German knows exactly what it takes at this point in the season, as Leeds remain unbeaten in the league since December.
Leicester’s recent spiral would suggest that the door is wide open for the Whites, with Enzo Maresca’s side losing against Middlesbrough, Leeds and QPR, as well as drawing to Hull City in the last six league matches.

While Leeds will be focusing on the Foxes, the club must also keep one eye on Ipswich, who have boosted themselves back into the title race, winning six games on the bounce before a defeat against Cardiff City on Saturday 9 March.
Farke’s side have their future in their own hands, and they are the only people who will stand in the way of Leeds gaining promotion back to the Premier League. Only time will tell how this campaign finishes at Elland Road.
