David Prutton wowed by ‘great’ Patrick Bamford in Leeds United v Preston prediction

David Prutton has predicted Leeds United to take all three points from the Championship clash with Preston at Elland Road on 21 January amid high praise for Patrick Bamford.

The Sky Sports pundit said it was great to see Bamford on the scoresheet again over the last couple of weeks, claiming he will be important to Leeds at the business end of the season.

Prutton suggested Preston will be on a high following their victory against Bristol City last time out, but a trip to Elland Road may prove too difficult for them, predicting a 2-0 Leeds win.

Sharing his Championship predictions for Sky Sports, Prutton claimed: “Things are looking a little rosier for Leeds now after back-to-back wins.

“It is great to see Patrick Bamford back in the goals after some of his difficulties in the last couple of years. We know how good he can be, and he’ll be a real asset as we approach the business end of the season.

“Preston took a great win against Bristol City last time out – albeit the Robins may have had one eye on their replay with West Ham – and need to build on that if they are to push on back towards the top six. Elland Road isn’t an ideal trip to try and build momentum, though. Home win. 2-0.”

Bamford proving to be an unlikely hero

This season couldn’t have started much worse for Bamford. He was tipped to finally rediscover his form after the drop down the divisions, but immediately suffered an injury in pre-season before Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter stamped their mark on the first team, leaving him in the shadows.

Prutton’s praise for Bamford is justified. It’s good to see him back amongst the goals, and if he can keep this run up he will prove crucial in the ongoing battle for promotion. Who would’ve seen that one coming?

When Leeds moved to sign Piroe in the summer if you’d told a Leeds fan Bamford would take his place in the starting XI and leave him on the bench, you’d have been laughed out of Elland Road.

Now though, he will be looking to find the back of the net for the fourth consecutive game when Preston visit Elland Road. Full of confidence following a screamer in the FA Cup victory against Peterborough and goals against Cardiff and Birmingham, it would not be a shock if he did so again.
