David Prutton slams Leeds United players as Elland Road exit ‘rumblings’ emerge

David Prutton has slammed the Leeds United players live on Sky Sports as rumours emerge over a number of them pushing for exits.

Dutch media outlet 1908 claim Crysencio Summerville wants to depart and rumours have emerged over Willy Gnonto potentially pushing for an exit.

Talking live on Sky Sports Prutton believes the players should stay to right the wrongs of last season.

“The vast majority of them came to Leeds and didn’t perform at all,” Prutton told Sky Sports (22 June).

“You hear mutterings and rumblings about the players wanting to move on and stay in the Premier League but they made an absolute pig’s ear of the Premier League. If the majority stayed behind that might right the wrongs of last season.”

Realistic?

In an ideal world, all of Leeds’ current squad would band together and quite literally march the Whites back into the Premier League in a blaze of glory – we all know, football doesn’t work like that.

The reason a number of players are pushing for exits is that they signed up for a Premier League project on top-flight wages. Any sniff of an opportunity to return to the top level of English football won’t be passed up on.

When taking a deeper dive into the squad, there are a number of players who will almost certainly depart during the off-season. Tyler Adams is the most likely to move on.

The American was a standout performer last season and is at an age where he needs to be playing near the top end of European football.

It’s a similar story for Rodrigo, who looks a dead cert to depart with a move back to Spain potentially the most sensible option. Real Madrid were reportedly interested, however, it appears Sevilla have won the race for the 32-year-old.
