David Prutton says Leeds United "have to" get promoted and that the "pressure's on" for Daniel Farke this season.

The club kept faith with Farke despite missing out agonisingly on an immediate return to the Premier League back in May by losing the play-off final to Southampton.

Leeds sit fourth in the Championship at this early stage of the campaign, unbeaten with two wins following two draws.

Speaking on the Essential EFL podcast [9 September, 18:52], former Whites midfielder Prutton said: "From Farke's point of view, the pressure's on, have to get promoted.

"Again, [it's] quite cut and dry but that's what Leeds are in the Championship. Early signs are looking good."

Leeds United must continue momentum

Leeds secured back-to-back wins and three straight clean sheets with their most recent outing, a 2-0 Elland Road win over Hull City.

With several of their squad representing their nations over the past week, some are reporting back at Thorp Arch with match sharpness intact, although with the small size of the squad, Farke will be praying for no major injury issues.

After a sluggish opening to the season in which the side had to find their feet, the momentum appears now to be back in the side's favour as they get the wind in their sails again.

Leeds at times last season were unstoppable - it just simply wasn't sustained. This season, it has to be.

There are concerns over the depth of the squad with youngsters regularly involved with the first-team setup, and those numbers will be looked at every day in the hope that the squad doesn't become threadbare - because despite some high-profile sales, there is plenty of quality there.
