David Prutton reacts to what Sky co-host said about Leeds United boss Farke – ‘Wow’

Daniel Farke was the topic of a bizarre conversation between David Prutton and Sky podcast co-host Simeon Gholam this week as Leeds United were discussed.

Speaking on the Essential EFL podcast by Sky Sports, Prutton had to correct Gholam when he referred to Farke as “wide” when he had intended to call him “broad”.

This had come after discussing a probiotic drink bottle that Farke was holding following a recent game.

Gholam had been setting up former Leeds star Prutton to predict this weekend’s round of Championship fixtures including the Whites’ contest with Oxford United.

“A bottle of Actimel must look very, very small in his hands,” Gholam said [19 December, 18:25].

“Has he got big hands?”, Prutton asked.

Gholam answered: “He’s just a big bloke, isn’t he. He’s a wide man.”

“Wow. You’re using it as a compliment… that’s unheard of. Broad is the word you’re looking for! ‘Broad’ as a gentleman is a good thing; ‘wide’ thrown at anyone, my God,” Prutton laughed as the pair saw the funny side.

Farke is certainly not an easy character to miss, cutting a dominant figure in the dugout at Elland Road.

And it is this kind of leadership which will be vital to the promotion push at which many were exasperated did not get over the line last campaign, despite the 90-point league total which would have been enough for the automatics in 14 of the last 20 seasons.

It only needs a glance to see Leeds’ Achilles heel this season has been their away form, having taken twice as many points at Elland Road as on their travels and scored more than double the number of goals.

In the immediate short-term, this is not necessarily a concern as full focus applies to a home clash with Oxford this Saturday [21 December].

But to close the year, two trips to the Midlands crop up against Stoke City and Derby County which will require an improvement in form from the one win in the team’s last seven away fixtures.

Farke’s side will be taking on an opponent in the process of change, with manager Des Buckingham having left the Kassam Stadium earlier this week.
