David Prutton predicts result of Leeds United v Sunderland for Sky Sports
David Prutton has made his prediction ahead of the Championship clash between Leeds United and Sunderland on Tuesday night.
The Whites suffered their first league defeat of 2024 to Coventry at the weekend to fall out of the automatic promotion places, while Sunderland were held to a goalless draw with Bristol City in their last outing.
But with the race for promotion so tight Leeds know a win could potentially even send them top of the table depending on results elsewhere, and Prutton told Sky Sports (9 April) he is expecting a return to winning ways at Elland Road for Leeds.
“That was a real setback for Leeds at Coventry, but it wasn’t hugely unexpected with it being such a tough trip,” he wrote. “They need to bounce back quickly, mind.
“But this is a kind fixture as Sunderland are just trying to get through to the end of the season now. This should be a home win. Leeds 2-1 Sunderland.”
Leeds United have no room for error now
A stunning run from Leeds in 2024 took the team to the top of the Championship and many people had them as shoe-ins to go back to the Premier League automatically as a result.
But just like when Leicester’s lead was overturned, football has a funny way of showing you that things are not always as they seem and they now have just one win in their last three games and sit third.
Daniel Farke knows the Championship better than anyone else having won it twice with Norwich, and the race now looks sure to go down to the wire between the Whites, Leicester and Ipswich.

There is no room for error in the race and Leeds now must go all out to win their remaining five games, starting with Sunderland at Elland Road.
If they find a way to do that then they will have every chance of succeeding in their request to return to the top flight.
