David Prutton has backed Leeds United to return to winning ways against Cardiff City this weekend.

The Whites were defeated 1-0 at home by Burnley last weekend and will be itching to rebound against the winless Bluebirds at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday (21 September).

Sky Sports host and ex-Leeds midfielder Prutton is tipping Daniel Farke's men to do just that in a 2-0 predicting for the away side.

"Cardiff are in a massive rut aren't they given they sit bottom of the table with just that solitary point," he said on Sky Sports' 'Essential EFL' podcast (19 September).

"Leeds that poor defending that opened up the whole end of the pitch for Koleosho against Burnley, you'd like to think they would right that.

"I'm going to go for them to win on the road here, it's a trip and a half, but I think they come back with all three points Cardiff nil, Leeds two."

Leeds United must rebound against Cardiff City

It says a lot about the expectation levels at Leeds this season that their first Championship defeat of the season saw a section of the fanbase start grumbling about Farke.

The German is all too aware of the need to bring success to West Yorkshire this season and his side missed a big chance to put down a big marker against a promotion rival last time out.

There can be no excuses this weekend, though, against a Cardiff side who have started the campaign in abysmal fashion, taking just a single point from five games.

If Leeds are to challenge at the top end of the table again, and go one step further than their play-off final loss, then these matches have to be bread-and-butter victories.

Anything less and Farke will know that the pressure cooker will be cranked up even further, even at this very early stage of the campaign.
