David Prutton drops ‘perfect’ verdict amid Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds United prediction

David Prutton has shared his prediction for the Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United on Friday (8 March).

The Whites will be hoping to put even more pressure on Leicester City and Ipswich Town at the top of the table, especially following their hard-fought 1-0 victory against Stoke City.

At the other end of the table, just a single point could move the Owls out of the relegation zone, and with a draw at Elland Road in the reverse leg, an equal share of points may not be out of the question.

Prutton, who played for both teams during his career, thinks the visitors will edge it at Hillsborough, though.

Predicting for Sky Sports on Thursday (7 March), Prutton said: “This is a Yorkshire derby and it’s all about these two. Danny Rohl has done a cracking job, whether it sees them safe only time will tell. But I think it’s the perfect way to open the Championship weekend.

“I’m going to go with an away win – Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Leeds United.”

Can Sheffield Wednesday steal a point from Leeds United?

Daniel Farke’s side cannot afford to take anything other than three points away from Hillsborough, with Leicester and Ipswich keeping up the pace at the top of the table.

After Southampton’s match against Preston North End was postponed due to a fire near the stadium, Leeds have the chance to extend the gap between third and fourth to nine points and help them keep the focus on the top two teams.

Wednesday have certainly turned a corner in the past few weeks, claiming five wins in their last six matches, only losing out to the Foxes in that period. They will pose a dangerous threat to Leeds, especially with Danny Rohl’s insider knowledge of Farke.

Despite this, the Whites will still be expected to claim all three points and, potentially, close the gap on Leicester, who face Hull City at the weekend.

Farke’s previous experiences in the second division with Norwich City should help lead the squad through this difficult patch of the season, as the pressure builds and the expectations grow from believing fans.
