David Prutton backs Leeds United for win v Chelsea
David Prutton believes that Leeds United can beat Chelsea as they clash in West Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon [20 August].
The Sky Sports pundit admitted that there will be big frustration in the camp of the away side after they threw away the win against Spurs last weekend.
In his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton was of the opinion that the Whites have the ability to beat the London-based club.
“I absolutely can see Leeds beating them,” he said.
“There’ll be a reaction obviously from Chelsea for the frustration that they felt against Spurs. But having seen what Leeds can do at full pelt, Chelsea won’t be taking them lightly at all.”
Leeds entered the campaign hoping that they will never have to go through what they did in the previous campaign.
The season have started exactly the way the Whites would’ve wanted as they defeated Wolves in the opening fixture and then managed to get a draw against Southampton while playing away from home.
The match against Chelsea will present a great opportunity for Leeds to make a statement and manager Jesse Marsch will be hoping to ensure that his players will be up for the task and secure a positive result against a side who have an equal number of points from the first two matches.
Looking at historical data would not give Leeds too much hope as they’ve only managed to beat the Blues in eight wins and suffered 11 defeats in the process whereas nine matches ended as a draw.
The recent record makes the picture look even bleaker as Chelsea have won four times in the last five meetings between the teams and one match ended as a draw [Transfermarkt].
