David Ornstein: Chelsea to pay Leeds United £55million-plus ahead of Raphinha move

Chelsea have indicated that they will pay Leeds United north of £55million for Raphinha with the Yorkshire side ready to accept, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Ornstein reported on Tuesday 28 June that Chelsea are in pole position for land the 25-year-old Brazilian, although the “race for his signature is not closed yet”.

Raphinha has been holding out for a move to Barcelona but the Catalans have been blown of the water by the Premier League interest in the Brazilian.

Bidding war

Could we be at the start of a bidding war for the Brazilian’s services?

Just because Chelsea have agreed a fee for the 25-year-old does not mean Arsenal won’t come back in to bump his price up further.

A move to Chelsea does look like the most viable move for the Brazilian with the winger searching for Champions League football and the chance to win some silverware.

Chelsea rarely miss out on Champions League football and often add some sort of trophy to their cabinet each season.

It will be hard for Leeds United fans to see Raphinha line up against them next season, but ultimately a footballer’s career is short and he has to push himself at the highest level possible.

If the two London clubs start to outbid each other for the Brazilian, it could certainly give the Whites the correct funds to adequately replace the Brazilian.

Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta have shown they can move quickly in the transfer market and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them act fast to replace Raphinha.
