David Norris wants Leeds United to sign Todd Cantwell
Leeds United were linked with Norwich City attacker Todd Cantwell last summer, and David Norris wants them to sign him this month.
The England youth international was wanted by the Whites after the Canaries got relegated at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, with director of football Victor Orta telling Yorkshire Evening Post in October 2020 that the 23-year-old was analysed but a deal was difficult to seal.
Leeds are keen on bolstering their attack this summer and Norris has urged them to bring Cantwell to Elland Road.
“I really like him. I’ve seen him over the years and he is a good player who can create chances and score,” the former Whites midfielder told This Is Futbol.
“I could see him doing quite well at Leeds, in that attacking line-up. He’s a very good player. If they have a chance of getting him and I saw that Leeds have signed Cantwell, I’d be happy with that.”
Cantwell helped Norwich straight back to the Premier League with six goals and six assists in 33 Championship games, and he will be very much keen to prove himself in the top-flight.
He ended 2019-20 with six goals and two assists in 37 league games and is without any iota of doubt Premier League quality.
Norwich are not likely to be open to a sale except suitors part with top dollar, and we do not see Leeds paying over the odds to sign an attacker this summer.
Given that the attack is not a position head coach Marcelo Bielsa badly wants to strengthen, the club would prefer a bargain deal, and that makes a move for Cantwell unlikely.
There are three weeks left in the summer transfer window, and there is still some time left for us to get a deal done.
Orta is definitely working on some moves behind the scenes and quietly, and the club could end up making major some transfer announcements out of the blue.
