David James believes Dan James is a good signing for Leeds United

David James believes Leeds United have struck gold by signing Wales attacker Daniel James from rivals Manchester United.

Marcelo Bielsa has been in the hunt for an attacking player all summer and got his man on transfer deadline day in James, a player he nearly signed in January 2019 from Swansea.

While his arrival at Elland Road may have divided opinions, the former England goalkeeper is in the camp of people who believe that he’ll add value to Bielsa’s side.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday [10:10 am], a while before the deal was official, James said, “A fantastic move.

“The way Dan James plays – rapid, attack-minded, he will suit the Leeds style.

“He will fit in perfectly there. With Ronaldo, he is surplus to requirements. He’s only 23, has time on his side – something Bielsa will take advantage of.”

Good move

James is a player who has been scouted thoroughly by Bielsa so there should be no qualms as to whether or not he’s a good signing for the Whites.

He was on their radar in 2019 and since then the club have retained a small interest in him, and have now officially signed him on a permanent basis.

James may not be a dazzling winger like Raphinha or someone with the end product of Jack Harrison, but he brings something unique to the table and the Elland Road faithful will soon be won over by his work-rate.

The 23-year-old is unlikely to be a regular starter at least for the next few games as everyone in the squad has to earn their spot under Bielsa and the Argentine would’ve been planning for the next few games assuming that his club aren’t signing anybody.

If anything, James adds another name on the matchday squad and could come in handy off the bench.

Even for Manchester United, that’s how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used him to great effect and Bielsa could help take his game to the next level.
