Darts ace Luke Humphries makes new Leeds United name admission live on Sky Sports

Luke Humphries has revealed that he was named after Leeds United.

The 29-year-old won the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship in January and is famously a Leeds supporter.

And, speaking ahead of Leeds’ Championship playoff final against Southampton at Wembley, he revealed that his first name is an acronym for “Leeds United, Kings of Europe”.

Speaking to Sky Sports (26 May), he said: “I was named ‘Leeds United, Kings of Europe’. What [could be] better than to be named after your club.

“It’s a big occasion today [for] both teams and I’m sure it [will] be a great game.”

Leeds United disappoint Luke Humphries at Wembley

The club’s namesake Humphries would have been left disappointed after watching the Whites slip to a 1-0 defeat against Southampton at Wembley.

Adam Armstrong’s low strike into the bottom-left corner in the 24th minute proved to be the decisive goal of the game after he was picked out in behind by Will Smallbone.

Leeds’ Championship playoff final defeat sees them miss out on the chance to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Whites may now be forced to sell a number of key players to balance their books ahead of a second consecutive season in the Championship.

In other Leeds United news, a former Whites winger has sent three-word message to a departing player.
