Darren Fletcher wowed by Rodrigo after two goals v Burnley
BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher was blown away by Rodrigo as he scored twice for Leeds United in the win against Burnley.
The Spaniard once again made a big impression from the bench, having also scored against Tottenham after being brought on last week.
His two finishes at Turf Moor were trickier than that goal, however, particularly the first.
Jack Harrison fired a brilliant pass into his feet but Rodrigo had to show an excellent touch to take the ball under his control before lifting it delicately over Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Fletcher was in awe at the skill on show, and said in BT Sport 1’s commentary, “Lovely take by Rodrigo, oh that’s class, that is top class from Leeds United.
“Brilliant pass initially but a wonderful take by Rodrigo and a quite outstanding finish.”
Starting to shine
Rodrigo should be very proud of his performance today as he displayed real quality to score two goals in 30 minutes.
Patrick Bamford was left battered and bruised from the Burnley defenders and when Rodrigo was brought on we thought he might have struggled under the same treatment.
He flourished instead, and found space in the Burnley box on several occasions because of his clever movement.
He showed remarkable composure to score his first and took his second like he has been banging them in all season.
It is a good time for the 30-year-old to find a bit of form as some had begun to question his role in the squad.
There has been talk of Leeds signing an attacking midfielder too, a move which could confine Rodrigo to the bench, but against Burnley he showed he deserves to start.
We have seen glimpses of his quality throughout the season but now Rodrigo must start showing his quality on a consistent basis.
If he does we will have a good source of goals throughout the team, and that will prove valuable over the course of a season.
