Darren Fletcher and Lucy Ward rave about Mateusz Klich after Burnley goal

BT Sport’s Darren Fletcher and Lucy Ward raved about Mateusz Klich after he gave Leeds United the lead at Burnley with a 25-yard strike at the end of the first half.

The Poland international started for the second consecutive game and popped up with a moment of inspiration in an otherwise dull half of football.

Klich ran from the halfway line and had options left and right but decided to go for goal himself.

It paid off too as he curled the ball around a Burnley defender and into the bottom corner, just out of the reach of Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

In commentary for BT Sport 1, Fletcher said, “Excellent goal, wonderful finish from Mateusz Klich. He measured it, he bent it and he finished it.

And pundit Ward added, “It’s a terrific finish isn’t it from Klich… great finish.”

Back to his best

Klich has suffered a dip in form in over the last couple of months but the goal at Turf Moor was a fine display of the quality he possesses.

He has been limited to substitute appearances in recent matches but made a real difference to the side against Tottenham and Burnley.

Leeds United

It is possible the midfielder just needed a rest due to the amount of games he played this season and in the last campaign, with little rest in between.

With a longer period to recover this summer compared to last year, and a proper pre-season, we could see Klich back to his best.

Stuart Dallas has done well in his place and it will be interesting to see if Victor Orta sees a need to add a new central midfielder to the squad.

Building our depth will be key to mounting a campaign to qualify for Europe, particularly if we are hit with a similar amount of injuries as this season.
