Darren Bent stunned by Junior Firpo penalty for Leeds v Fulham

Darren Bent was left blown away by Leeds United defender Junior Firpo against Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

The Spaniard stepped up sixth in the penalty shootout, and absolutely smashed home his effort into the top corner.

Bent insisted that Firpo looked confident as he was stepping up and Craven Cottage, and he did the business on the way to victory.

Speaking during the penalty shootout live on Sky Sports, Bent was blown away by what he saw from Firpo.

“Looked confident,” he said.

“Great. What a penalty, class.”

Class.

The standout penalty was definitely that from Firpo, with Joe Gelhardt also following suit with a thunderbolt.

Our summer signing will have been kicking himself after wasting some big chances at Newcastle on Friday, but hopefully, this confident strike will see him continue to improve.

This could see the defender come out of his shell and start to hit top form, fingers are crossed it starts against West Ham on Saturday.

The same goes for the rest of the squad too, who managed to leave the capital with the win despite being down to the bare bones in the squad.

Bielsa wasn’t exactly happy at times, but he will be delighted that signings such as Firpo and Dan James looked much better and the youngsters did their job.

After what has been a bleak start to the season, this is exactly the type of win that the squad needed – even if we have no fingernails left.
