Darren Bent gushes over ‘faultless’ Leeds United amid fresh Championship title verdict

Darren Bent issued a new prediction for the Championship title race as Leeds United climbed to first place with a 2-0 victory over Millwall on Sunday (17 March).

With Leicester City competing in the FA Cup against Chelsea, the Whites were given the perfect opportunity to topple the Foxes from their perch as they welcomed the Lions to Elland Road.

Though Leicester do have a game in hand over Leeds, the pressure will be on for Enzo Maresca’s men to respond and try and reclaim top spot.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (18 March, 4:55pm), Bent said: “I think Leeds. With the momentum they have, the last game they lost was in December.

“I know they lost in the cup but the last league game was in December, and that was back-to-back [losses]. They lost to West Brom – no shame in that – and they lost to Preston. Since then, they’ve been faultless.”

Could Leeds United pip Leicester City to the Championship title?

Leicester and Ipswich Town had opened up quite a significant gap at the top of the table earlier in the season, with few fans expecting anyone to catch the high-flying duo.

However, with eight matches of the season remaining, Leeds have taken an incredibly important step in winning promotion to the Premier League, as well as lifting the Championship title.

Of course, gaining promotion straight back to the top tier is the priority for Daniel Farke and the board, but to do it in such style would not be turned down by the Elland Road faithful.

Farke, with his previous experience with Norwich City in the division, has still done an incredible job with Leeds and deserves his plaudits, whether they win the league title or not.

Having formed one of the most formidable defences in the Championship, as well as one of the most deadly attacks, it is difficult to see where Leeds could slip during the run-in to the end of the season.
