Darren Ambrose reacts to Patrick Bamford incident in Leeds United loss v Arsenal

Darren Ambrose has been left baffled by the decision to book Patrick Bamford as Leeds United lost 1-0 against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday (17 October).

Bamford, who missed a penalty in the second half, was awarded yet another penalty towards the end, while Gabriel was shown a red card.

After a check on the side-pitch monitor, the referee changed his decision and gave a yellow card instead.

“The referee had a poor game. I think he got the last one wrong,” said Ambrose on TalkSport.

“I thought it was a foul by Patrick Bamford to start with and I don’t think Gabriel even kicked out, to be honest.

“I think he got it wrong. To rule out a red card and then give him yellow, I don’t understand why he even got the yellow card.

“It was just the tangle of legs after Bamford had already barged him over.”

Worrying sign

It was really poor from Chris Kavanagh who simply lost control in the second half.

He had a really poor game. He initially failed to spot the handball before the missed penalty. After a VAR check, the penalty was rightly awarded.

Keeping aside the poor officiating, Jesse Marsch will be really upset with the result.

The Whites are now without a win in their last six games, and they have now suffered back-to-back defeats.

Marsch said after the game that Leeds could have scored four or five goals, but the truth is they failed to do that.

Bamford came on in the second half, and made a strong impact. In the first half, a silly error from Rodrigo was brutally punished by Bukayo Saka, although Illan Meslier probably could have done better at the near post.

The performance needs to improve, and the results need to improve immediately. After a bright start, it seems like they are back to square one.
