Darren Ambrose: Harry Kane may start ahead of Patrick Bamford vs Andorra
Darren Ambrose believes that Leeds United attacker Patrick Bamford may have to wait a bit longer for his first England start.
The Leeds forward is in contention to make his England debut against Andorra on Sunday at Wembley.
He was on the bench in the Three Lions’ 4-0 win against Hungary, but Gareth Southgate did not decide to bring him on for it.
Discussing whether or not Bamford will be starting this one on talkSPORT, Ambrose said, “Patrick Bamford is the one I’m not too sure about. I think he will want to, I think Gareth Southgate might want him to, but I think Harry Kane will be going ‘I can get three or four against Andorra’.
“Bamford will want to play. He’ll be making his debut. On the flip side, he will be thinking ‘I can get a debut goal if I play against Andorra.'”
Bamford must start
Southgate’s primary role is to win football matches and he knows that the Poland game is going to be tougher than this one.
With Kane already playing against Hungary, he may decide that it’s wiser to keep him on the bench for this one and give Bamford a start.
Should things not go well, then he could turn to Kane and send him on with 30 minutes to go.

Knowing Kane, he would want to start, but Southgate has to think about his squad for the World Cup as well, and this game will be a good way to assess players who are on the fringes of the national side.
Bamford has proven his worth in the Premier League and deserves the opportunity to do so on the national stage as well.
It remains to be seen what Southgate eventually decides to do.
