Danny Murphy raises Leeds United ‘concern’ after what he’s seen in recent weeks

Leeds are looking to be well on their way to securing Premier League survival.

It has been a huge week for Daniel Farke’s side, with Leeds beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Friday, before they picked up a big 2-2 draw against Chelsea in midweek.

Draws for both West Ham and Nottingham Forest mean that the gap to the bottom three remains at six points, with the latter sacking Sean Dyche as a result of a scoreless draw against bottom-dwellers Wolves.

With a fantastic record at Elland Road, the Whites are now beginning to find form on their travels, having avoided defeat in five of their last six on the road.

However, pundit Danny Murphy has found one concern with Leeds as they battle for survival.

Danny Murphy raises Leeds concern amid Premier League survival battle

Leeds did a fantastic job of maintaining the gap to the bottom three this week, while they leapfrogged Tottenham in the process – jumping to 15th.

But Murphy doesn’t believe that Leeds have taken all the points that they should have thus far when speaking on Match of the Day on Wednesday night.

“Quality, well organised, they create chances,” said the former Liverpool midfielder when asked about the current side under Farke.

“The only small concern for Leeds is that I’ve seen them play really well, and not win enough games for how well they’ve played.

Even for example in the Newcastle game, they ended up losing it late but played really well.”

Leeds held the lead three times against Newcastle in January, before late efforts from Bruno Guimaraes and Harvey Barnes condemned them to defeat.

For further context, an extra three points would see them sit 13th, just a stone’s throw away from the European race.

“If they maintain the level they are at, they’ll be fine,” said Murphy.

“They’ve hit some really high levels of performance without gaining the points that their performances have deserved.”

Leeds travel to Birmingham City in the FA Cup this weekend, before a second successive trip to the Second City to take on Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Leeds can secure survival and continue building in Premier League

Leeds are already well on track to avoid the same fate as their last season in the Premier League, when they were relegated at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

With 12 games to go, the Whites can rely on a more than solid tally of points amassed, while their performances keep on improving.

Survival in year one was always going to be the aim, and the next step will be to build sustainably.

With a fortress in Elland Road, Leeds have the makings of a stable top-flight club if the foundations are correct.

Survival this year will give the club the perfect opportunity to begin building towards this future.
