Danny Murphy gushes over ‘unbelievable’ Leeds United amid fresh promotion verdict
Danny Murphy was awestruck as Leeds United defeated Stoke City 1-0 on Tuesday 5 March and admits he’s got a soft spot for the Yorkshire club.
Though the Whites managed to claim all three points at Elland Road, Championship promotion rivals Leicester City and Ipswich Town also won their respective matches against Sunderland and Bristol City.
The top three spots in the second division are separated by just five points, with the Foxes losing three consecutive league matches to slip closer to Leeds and Ipswich.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (6 March, 10:12am), Danny Murphy said: “In two of the three games that I saw, the Leeds game was unbelievable. They actually played really well and made a hat-full of chances.
“I think they [Leicester City] will get over the line, then it’s between Leeds and Ipswich [Town]. I was rooting for Leeds against Leicester the other week because I’ve got a little soft spot for them.”
Will Leeds United claim promotion to the Premier League?
Daniel Farke has led the Whites to an incredible position, with the chance of bouncing straight back to the first division after being relegated from the Premier League last season.
With 23 victories from 36 league matches so far, Leeds are within five points of Leicester at the top of the table, with the Tractor Boys putting themselves back in contention after a run of six wins.
The promotion spots are likely to come down the wire, although Southampton are slowly drifting away from the top three teams, and their season will probably be decided in the coming weeks.

Of course, there is a very real possibility that the Whites are condemned to the playoff spots, with Leicester and Ipswich claiming the top two spots, but with Farke’s Championship CV, fans are becoming more and more excited as the season goes on.
The 1-1 draw with 10-man Huddersfield Town was certainly seen as a slip-up, especially with the Foxes getting back to winning ways after three straight league losses. But Leeds will be confident that they can achieve promotion this season.
